Taichung travel guide

Taichung is the largest city in central Taiwan, with steady weather and an unhurried pace that suits eating your way around. This guide covers getting around, what to eat, souvenirs and where to stay, so first-timers can follow it as is.

Getting there and around

High-speed rail trains stop at HSR Taichung Station in Wuri District, where you can change to the TRA Xinwuri Station or the Taichung Metro Green Line into the city. Buses, the Green Line and YouBike cover most trips; parking near night markets is hard, so public transport is easier.

Choosing souvenirs

Sun cakes are Taichung's signature souvenir: flaky pastry with a maltose filling that keeps for several days at room temperature. Check the best-before date and storage instructions before buying.
